My 12-year old daughter Morgan and I are starting our first year in National Charity League (NCL). We were sponsored by Lisa Kern, a KD sister from the Alpha Mu – Mississippi chapter and a member of the Richardson/Plano alumnae association, of which I serve as president. The president of NCL is Penny MacDonnell who is also a Kappa Delta. This is a six year commitment. Each daughter starts in 7th grade and goes through 12th grade. My youngest daughter will finish in 2019. The purpose of this organization is to foster mother-daughter relationships in a philanthropic organization committed to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences. We have already exceeded our 15 hour philanthropic requirement in the first month of active membership. We volunteered at Kids Night Out, a program that allows parents with children with disabilities an evening out, Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure, Bingo Birthday parties at local Community Homes and much more! In addition to volunteering, Morgan participates in monthly meetings that are designed to teach the girls social and educational skills, proper hygiene, health and good nutrition. I am really excited about this wonderful opportunity to model leadership, encourage good choices and the importance of serving others to my daughters. Having the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom has allowed me to maintain balance in my activities and everyday life. In an effort to balance my duties as a mother and as a wife, my husband and I make it a priority to meet for date lunches and squeeze work-outs into our busy weekly schedules.
