KD Remembers Former National Council Member

Former National Council member Ruth Williams Vordenbaumen passed away at her home in Baton Rouge, La., on Feb. 18, 2010. She was 95. Ruth, a 1933 initiate of Epsilon chapter at Louisiana State University, served Kappa Delta as national collegiate vice president from 1973-1977, alternate delegate to the National Panhellenic Conference, province president, regional chapter director and chairman of Epsilon's chapter advisory board. In 1983, Ruth received the Order of the Emerald Award for her many years of dedication and service to Kappa Delta. In addition, the Ruth Williams Vordenbaumen Award is given each year by Epsilon chapter to an outstanding senior member of the LSU Panhellenic Council.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Nellwyn Vordenbaumen East, Zeta-Alabama, and Polly Vordenbaumen Voorhies, Alpha Mu-Mississippi; son George Caldwell Vordenbaumen Jr.; one grandson; five granddaughters, including Rachel Spiller Garrett, Mu-Millsaps, and Dr. Catherine Caldwell Spiller, Alpha Chi-Louisiana Tech; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial gifts may be made in Ruth's name to the Epsilon 100th Anniversary Gift to LSU. Checks should be made payable to: LSU Foundation/Dalrymple Gateway Project .
