The sun stays out longer, flowers are blooming, and birds are chirping…spring is finally here! I’ve always loved spring time because everyone, animal and human, emerge once the cold winds of winter have finally passed. People seem to linger longer at the stores, engage in small talk with their neighbors, and are more likely to help out in the community on sunny days. To me, spring is a rebirth. We start this year off fresh after shedding our winter coat. I encourage you all to consider doing some spring cleaning and I don’t just mean dusting off your beach bags. As you look at your spring clothes think about the items that you really wear and for those other items try to donate them to the Salvation Army or Goodwill. Living in an apartment I’m quite envious of my friends who actually have gardens to plan vegetables and flowers but this year I can join them. I’ve volunteered to help my church plant some flowers to add much needed color and curb appeal. An easy way to support your community during the spring time is to visit your local farmers market and indulge in delicious fruits and vegetables locally grown in your area. Perhaps the next time you take a walk outside look around you and find simple projects or ways to help others out which can range from planting flowers, visiting a farmer’s market, painting the storefront, or offering to walk your neighbor’s dog.
